5 Things I Learned Being a Walt Disney World Cast Member

Image
It's been a year since I have made magic at the Walt Disney World resort. It has been a year since I put on my name tag, checked into my shift on CDS, and a year since I have had an active Blue ID. Those realizations are heartbreaking. My program ending is still such a sore wound. Time has helped healed it but there are still days where it feels like the scab gets ripped open and I question the "what ifs" and "should have beens." I never would have thought on March 15, 2020 that Disney would have stayed closed for four months, thousands of more cast members would be laid off, and that I still would not have had the opportunity to go back by this point. My program ending lead me into a really low point. There were a lot of tears, a lot of heartache, and a lot of unknowns. The days, weeks, and months following my program were hard but I have seen God's faithfulness through this whole process and so many unexpected blessings along the way. March 15, 2020 feels

Magical Moments

I realized I haven't written much about the magical moments I had on my program so I wanted to write a blog on those before wrapping up my DCP blogs with my totals. A magical moment is any time that magic is made at Disney. Magical moments can be a cast member giving you a fastpass, a free Mickey bar, or doing anything else to make a guest feel extra special. Magical moments were my absolute favorite part of working for Disney and luckily with my role in Quick-Service Food and Beverage I had the opportunity to make them everyday! I wanted to share three of my favorite magical moments that were just as magical for me as the magic I was making for the guests. **Please know none of these stories are meant to sound like I'm being boastful and bragging on myself, these are just small moments that made me love being a cast member and getting to make a family's day a little more magical. Names are also changed for the personal safety of the guests.   1. I was working at

My Last Few Days in Florida

Image
Similar to my last few days in the parks, it's hard to find words to describe the emotions of my last few days in Florida. I had to say goodbye to so many people who I had grown so close to as well as pack up our entire apartment. Although they were filled with so many tears, they were some pretty special last few days.  Monday morning we all slept in and kinda lounged around the apartment most of the morning going through all of our pictures and reminiscing on the past two months. I had to take some costumes back to Costuming and needed to pick up a new name tag I had ordered with my hometown on it. Audrey brought her costumes too so we returned them then picked up my name tag before driving around a very VERY empty property. It was honestly pretty eerie and sad driving around and not seeing cars or guests. We drove over to Disney University because I wanted to take a picture with my name tag then took some pictures in front of a very empty Magic Kingdom entrance.

The Sweetest 48 Hours

I will never be able to describe every thought and emotion that came with being in the parks the last day and a half before the Coronavirus shut down. They were some of the most magical days but there was no happiness in my heart. Every interaction I had with guests, other cast members, and other CPs were so special. Having part time and full time cast members go out of their way to make those days a little more magical did not go unnoticed. I will forever cherish the last 48 hours being considered a CP before packing up and leaving Florida. Here is my best shot at describing those emotional, horrible, magical, fun, and draining last couple days.  Saturday March 14- I got up and got ready for work Saturday morning just like any other work day. I got to work at Cooling Hut that morning for the first time and got to work with one of my sweetest coworkers. Around noon one of my trainers came over and told me there was a CP meeting in the leaders office at 12:45. My stomach started tu
